First Time Using a Brush Cutter Any Tips Before I Rent One

I’ve got some overgrown property to clean up and I’m thinking about renting a skid steer brush cutter for the first time. Mostly thick weeds, small saplings, and areas that haven’t been touched in a few years.

I’ve run a skid steer before but never used this kind of attachment, so I’m wondering what to expect.

Anything I should know before jumping into it? Trying to avoid rookie mistakes.

First time I used one I thought it would act like a mower. It doesn’t.

You want to ease into heavy brush and let the blades work. If you ram straight in, machine starts bouncing and you lose control pretty quick.

Also watch what’s hiding in tall growth. Rocks, wire, old fence posts… brush cutters find everything.

A good skid steer brush cutter will handle way more than grass, but that doesn’t mean you should treat it like a bulldozer.
I usually: Lift slightly when entering heavy stuff, take smaller bites, let RPM recover before pushing again
And keep an eye on hydraulic temp if you’re working nonstop. People forget these attachments load the machine hard.
